They said it wouldn't happen but it happened.
Big guv has been using the powers given to it in the '2007 protect America act' to spy and collect data on its own citizens. Its like the days of those old soaks Angleton and McCarthy all over again.
| James Jesus Angleton |
Angleton was the head of US counter intelligence; a spy hunter. He was also a paranoid lunatic that believed there was commies hiding in bins, under manholes and up trees. When it came out that his agency had been intercepting peoples mail, against executive orders(president after president said no don't do that), he was hauled before congress. His babbling about reds under the bed fell on deaf ears and he was then fired.
That was the ending of an era when the intelligence services were really becoming too powerful and unaccountable. So it will be interesting to see who Obama sides with. Will he let them take their beating or will he just give them a slap on the wrist and try to carry on as business as usual, essentially liberty > security or security > liberty is the question, the former every time with me. The intelligence services really started getting out of hand off the back of 9/11, it was a reason for them but now it is obvious, once again, that if you give them powers they will immediately use them to the max and then some.
